"But one thing I'm noticing from my very limited point-of-view is that hiring has finally picked up again."

There is one clue. Hiring generally starts to pick up well before the fourth anniversary. Poverty has grown every year that Bush has been in office, that isn't generally a sign of recovery, but one of recession. Now businesses have been doing a lot better, but it hasn't translated into anything much as far as hiring or in higher pay.

The current hiring is hardly anything to brag about. In recent months, there was one good month in July when employment jumped by over 200K [150K is breakeven] but then it dropped back down to 169K in August. I think the underpinnings of this recovery are very, very weak and now with Katrina and the loss of 400K jobs, I don't know if we can dodge going back into recession. Plus, I can't believe Tom Delay sees the only way to cover the Katrina recovery cost is to borrow more money. If he is representative of GOP thinking, we are in serious trouble. The guy is a huge pig!
