"Now that Jesse is demanding the same payout as the victims of 9/11 received...."

As I recall, the settlement was to prevent the insurance companies from being bankrupted by lawsuits. That was for a few thousand people. The deaths from Katrina are so far untabulated, but in New Orleans alone, 1.1 million people have been evacuated for at LEAST a month or two.

Probably, some sort of mass settlement or settlements will have to be arrived at here as well. Why shouldn't the people of New Orleans be entitled to the same sort of deal the people of New York got? I'd think in New Orleans, the amounts for deaths will be much smaller, since the projected lifetime earnings of the dead will be much less. For the deaths, we already have the formula used in New York. It's precedent. If it's not done, it WILL be racist and will be blamed on the Republicans.
