Japan has had considerable influence on US policies, but mostly in the trade policy area, and gained considerable advantages from that influence.

There have been at least 2 "China Lobbies" influencing US policies for a long time....probably back to the time of Sun Yat Sen.

The group around Madame Chiang Kai-shek had considerable influence with Richard Nixon.

George H. W. Bush was and is very close to various Chinese groups. Maybe why he barfed on the Japanese...;-)

We can also count our dear friends the Saudis.

Everyone wants someone else to pay for an Empire which will do the heavy lifting. American Taxpayers and our military get stuck with the price.
