I've been away from my genealogy activities, but I hope everyone is persevering and getting their family histories recorded.

You are right. The internet is a great place to start. I was lucky in that some of my earliest American ancestors lie in a cemetery on which the gravestone inscriptions have been posted on the internet. Some day I hope to visit that cemetery myself and photograph the stones.
