All companies self-promote. But they could beat them over the head in a way that's less likely to alienate potential customers.

Some of the people they're selling to have spent their careers buying Dell hardware and probably have some ego-stake in their prior decisions and maybe even some brand loyalty. These ads effectively call those people idiots.

How often have staid establishment newspapers turned down ads from a computer company...and been right to do it? Just unbelievable.

And then instead of waking up and smelling the coffee, McNealy solicits additional crude suggestions from the all-grown-up slashdot crowd.

It would be funny if it wasn't costing me money.

Edit: The smartest thing McNealy ever said was: let the numbers speak for themselves. That, however, was when he was being partially restrained by a guy who has since turned MOT from a $10 stock into a $20 stock.
