Too many contracts written against things that don't exist, except on paper... And uh-oh, a shortage of the underlying item, a massive imbalance.
It's really funny when you think about it, a whole lot of nothing going on, but somehow one side loses money and the other side makes some.

Newell Rubbermaid to Cut 5,000 Jobs, Shut Third of Factories in Streamlining Effort

ATLANTA (AP) -- Newell Rubbermaid Inc., maker of plastic products for the home and office, on Thursday announced a three-year plan to streamline manufacturing and cut overhead, including laying off 5,000 workers.

The maker of Sharpie pens and Rubbermaid trash cans said it plans to close one-third of its 80 factories worldwide.
