I agree that bandwidth is not going to be the issue. As far as gui data flow goes, that can be minimized as well (remember good old block mode 3270 terminals - just send the data back and forth). For almost all corporate use, I don't really think local storage is required. Most corporate users today are already encouraged to store everything that is important on the network so that it can be backed up. Who backs up their own hard drive on the company's PC? Nobody! Besides, if everything is on the network, the managerial types can be relieved of lugging a laptop around. Just get on an NC anywhere, insert your smart card (so says Oracle), get encrypted access to all of your apps and data and you're on your way. If you are literaly on the road (say stuck in traffic while BART is on strike), then connect the NC in your car (hey, they're cheap, keep a few where you may need them) to your friendly neighborhood wireless network and go. No more lugging around laptops. No more docking stations. No more "My Briefcase". It's a pretty seductive model.
