It isn't how I read it. It seems to me that the author simply argues against such favored status for such rich Corporations. After all--the rest of us pay Federal Taxes. Why shouldn't drug companies? (and let us remember that up to 50% of "R&D" is funded by Government and University Grants).

Nor does the fact that these companies invest in drugs establish their motivation. I doubt they are motivated by an overweening love for humanity! 50,000,000 people dying of AIDS without even the offer of "at cost" drugs would suggest otherwise. :-(

Their motive is self interest. Fine. That is the system that respects individuals and individual rights. Reaching out to help others is a voluntary matter. Again...fine.

BUT AGAIN, I am simply wondering where you think the rest of the world is letting these big non tax paying companies down? May they be a great American success story and may we we all die without pain...but other countries are not responsible for their success or failure--right?? A socialist might argue that other countries and other people ought to live their lives to the benefit of these FAT CATS.

But I don't buy that. Do you?

Do you think you pay too much for prescription drugs?? ... or just the exact right amount??

Good topic, BTW--thanks. It touches on several different parameters of thought...
