I think that this high volume may be related to the S-3 filing that xoma recently made on Edgar (my link is down or I would post it here). For the past several days someone sat on the ask and bought anything thrown at them at 6 5/16 (on stocksmart you could see bid:ask of 10:100 and the 10,000 block just NEVER went away). Perhaps this very deep well was due to the private placement. If convertables were involved this might be due to shorting to unwind position to get cash. Still, this spike in volume is really weird, expecially since at least in the beginning a lot of shares traded without much difference in price. Perhaps its just coincidence that the offering was 3.2M (Or something like that) ... Ed
