UNDER THE RADAR IS THIS A NEUTRAL POST... Progressives AND Conservatives.... together.. UNITE.

KATRINA -- PROGRESSIVES AND CONSERVATIVES AGREE, KATRINA "GHETTOS" A LOUSY
POLICY: The Bush administration has purchased nearly 300,000 trailers at a cost
of some $5 billion to temporarily house Katrina victims in what Newt Gingrich
calls "ghettos of despair." Last night in New Orleans, Bush touted his trailer
park policy: "In the disaster area -- and in cities that have received huge
numbers of displaced people -- we are beginning to bring in mobile homes and
trailers for temporary use." Both conservatives and progressives strongly object
to this move. "It's not rocket science," said Bruce Katz, a former HUD chief of
staff under Clinton. "If you turned on the voucher faucet, you'd have people in
apartments in a week." Rep. Jeff Flake, an Arizona conservative, added, "Three
hundred thousand manufactured homes? People are screaming about that. I tell
you, FEMA is a disaster."
