Gus > after the second American Civil War....
It seems to me it's already over and the fascists/Jacobins/Trotskyites/neocons have won -- by a coup-de-etat, which was marked by 9/11. A State modelled on the Third Reich has been established. A puppet dictator, a one-time druggie and alcoholic, has been put in place. The original American Constitution is toast. The Founding Fathers are laid to rest, permanently. The Bible is in -- and big time. Militant Judeo-Christian self-righteousness and fanaticism are rampant. Anyone who disagrees with the dictates of the State is regarded as a terrorist and will be dealt with accordingly, as are Muslims, a priori. The Inquisition is already in full swing in Gitmo and Abu Ghraib.
> I guess Greater China (mainland + Taiwan) will rise to the top
Maybe? But one must remember that it takes more to make a leading nation than 1.3 billion hard workers and an artificially cheap currency. I tend to feel that the US Frankenstein will be with us for some time to come. Anyway, the world has been put on notice and people will have to react accordingly.
> if China --and, more broadly, East Asia-- can offer the world's best and brightest a more humane, more peaceful, non-Judeofascist, environment and future
One can be sure that the Judeo-fascists are fully aware of this and will do whatever they can to prevent it. Thinking, sensitive people abhor violence and religious and racial intolerance. One needs only to think of the massive efflux of talented people from Germany in the 1930s and even from SA from 1950 to 2000. We still have to see this happen in the US but it certainly is the inevitable consequence of the present administration's policies.
> the so-called American Dream (or is it a nightmare?) will be history....
Are you talking about the Israeli settlers in Gaza who were financed by the US to go there, reimbursed by the US when they left, and are now being financed by the US for yet a third time to be resettled -- and, naturally, in the style to which they had become accustomed. |
