"The president, as he fondly recalled the other day, used to get well lit in New Orleans." The interesting thing is that it isn't just the Maureen Dowds that are saying stuff like this. In fact, some of the same people who were describing Dubya as "determined", "hands on", "detail oriented" are now using language that is a lot more harsh. And in a critical environment, the stage managing doesn't play nearly as well. Instead of inspiring, it comes off as, well, faked. Which causes even more erosion in perception. Which makes people more critical. Positive feedback can be a bitch.
