The U.S. of A. in years past have aimed very high. They have raised the bar for themselves and its past leaders have made sure that under their leadership, the American people continued to have opportunities to achieve those high goals, whether in the field of manufacturing science and research, basic science research etc. etc. Because of past policies of its leaders this country held the lead in areas such as high tech (Intel chip, Miscrosoft software, Cisco networking etc.) These companies are pioneers in their field in the world. Then we have the space technology (to include aircraft manufacture Boeings, etc) These were those days. The nation progressed overall, the national wealth increased, and with it there was prosperity. There was nothing called the poor since jobs were a plenty. Technology advanced, with it came worker retraining and industries such as textiles, shipbuilding etc. were sent overseas since these did not require the skills and the intelligence of the American worker. This gave rise to the new economy which peaked during the Clinton era.
For the past 5 years the bar has been lowered. High tech jobs have fled to countries such as India and China. The CIA has predicted that these 2 nations would surpass the US in power by the year 2020. Chinese and Indian engineers and doctors have returned to their respective countries of birth. American companies such as Google and Microsoft are fighting over a Chinese engineer in court. And that Chinese engineer is going to head up the expansion in China. Ironic, is it not?
And you are talking about corporations hiring people here, US citizens, at wages which are nothing near what is being payed to workers in India and China. Where have we come. You are comparing the current situation in the US to the Russian brand of communism and feeling good. But that is the economic model of yesterday. Let us ask ourselves why our workers are getting paid to the same extent as the average Chinese or Indian worker is getting paid. One is a democracy and the other is a Communist dictatorship. How can both these systems prosper whereas ours is on the decline. HAs the political system got to do anything or is it the leadership in the respective countries. Let us sit back and ponder, political rhetoric aside. Just for the love of the U.S. of A. |
