Again, I believe the argument that the entire area hit by this hurricane is somehow uniquely more dangerous than some of the heaviest populated areas of the United States to be absolute rubbish.

I agree for "the entire area." Ordinary disaster there. But below-sea-level New Orleans is another matter. If people want to live there, they're free to do so, but we shouldn't encourage or subsidize it. They should do it at their own risk and on their own dime.
