StemCells Inc. (STEM) said Monday evening that results from a published study demonstrate that its proprietary human neural stem cells restore the lost motor function of mice with spinal cord injuries. The Palo Alto, Calif.-based company said as part of the study conducted at the University of California, Irvine, human neural stem cells were transplanted into mice nine days after a spinal cord crush injury that resulted in hind limb paralysis. The mice were then observed and tested for 16 weeks after the transplant, and the transplanted mice showed significant improvement in their ability to walk compared to mice in two control groups. The improvement persisted during the full term of the study.
