I find a tendency in discussions of taxation to underestimate the taxes paid in other countries. Whenever I read discussions of US taxation in the Aussie press the rates they quote bear no resemblence to the actual rates of tax in the US. They don't understand the US system and so ignore all taxes that don't have Aussie counterparts.
