It would be helpful if VZ could provide some lower cost hydrocarbons to Central America.

Oen view would be that the US, with the CAFTA trade agreement, is competing with VZ to court Central America.

Another view would be of the synergy and combined effects on Central American economies.

I expect TJ is right, and the main effect of heavy oil going to Central America will be like the Iraq "oil for food" deal, with some money sticking to the hands that the title to the oil will pass thru. I expect the heavy oil will end up in the same refineries it went to last year.

Would not be surprised if some of that money builds a building for a factory to be run by Taiwanese to use local labor to sell to Wal-Mart...

Now if we can get the EU to give some aid and FDI to counter the hegemonic US influence in the region...

Wonder what investment opportunities there will be ?
