I'm not sure where you are coming from re: NYC. I thought that New Orleans was the murder capital(and that certainly fits in with recent events).

"If you accept Jefferson's premise (that gov't would have to be overthrown every 20-30 years to keep it democratic), HOW can you deny honest citizenry the right to bear arms?"

I don't. But you can't be blase about these matters with benefit. Gun ownership is not justified by that ridiculous bromide: "guns don't kill people". I could say that cyanide doesn't kill people. And if your Government took THAT as a valid argument and allowed me to buy it without question...I could kill half the U.S. in several months.

Guns DO kill people. That is why they were invented.

People should be allowed to own guns.. They should meet strict criteria for ownership...and especially for "carry". But only if this is ethical. But if it is denied, then everyone will buy their protection underground.

My own invention (idea, actually). Every weapon purchased (knives included) should have embedded DNA which also touches the victim.

"Nice quiet town with no murders, no drug dealers, no criminals, right?

Pretty big city. Many of them bear arms as I believe they should.
