Humanly unthinkable? I guess I'm not human. It is so utterly obvious to me that we should support the insurance paradigm by paying the insured and not paying the uninsured that I find the alternative, er, unthinkable.

Did you notice the trend toward making people pay for their rescues if they're mountain climbing or some such and fail to heed warnings? No, we can't not rescue them, but we can make them pay for the rescue. Or we can, as the Post advocates, force them to buy rescue insurance. I don't don't like the idea of forcing people to by insurance when what's in jeopardy is themselves and their property, not others, as in car insurance.
