SUNN HAS released its UltraSparc IV+ processor which is the first upgrade to its Sparc chip line in nearly 18 months.

The UltraSparc IV+ is built using 90 nanometre process technology, compared to the 130-nanometer used for the Sparc IV.

According to Techworld, here Sun says that anyone who upgrades will double their performance.

Sun claims it has improved performance of the 1.5-GHz, dual core chip by integrating 2MB of Level 2 cache into it. Something else new is 32MB of Level 3 cache on the chipboard. Sun has released a new server line built around the new chip. There is the V490, a four-processor system and the V890, which can offer up to eight processors. Twelve way and 24-way systems are part of the range too. The pricing starts at $30,995 to $180,000.
