Yes people carrying a gun are more likely to use it in inappropriate ways then someone without a gun. They are also much more likely to use it to defend themselves or others. Why do you think it is so hard to get a carry permit in New York?? Because the city government in New York either isn't looking out for the interests and freedom of its people. It might think it is but that isn't the same thing. It is extraordinarily difficult to get a permit in New York City. So difficult that many don't make the attempt, they either give up, or get an illegal unregistered gun without a permit. Would you argue that replacing that regime with a much less restrictive and burdensome one would, over a sustained period of time, increase gun violence over NYC's current level? If so I'd disagree. The link in my last post is just a humorous way to make the argument that "guns do not kill people do". This isn't just sophistry. Having a gun can make you, and the people around you safer. The argument is the proper response to those who directly argue or imply that the presence of a gun is always a net negative in terms of safety, or is otherwise normally a very bad thing. Tim
