"TX has loose gun control laws. It ranks 17th in murder rate."

I doubt that murder rates have everything to do with gun control. I wonder how many guns are even involved in murders as compared to knives, stones, hands, bombs, dishes, poison, etc.?

But is clear to me that many "murders" are the result of passion and spontaneous events. In such confrontations, guns seem to be nore efficacious and final than a fist fight or a thrown chair. This is one reason I do not advocate regulating the ownership of chairs. The other reason is that chairs have uses which go beyond killing---uses which are even laudable. You can sit in chairs, sleep in chairs, and even have sex in chairs. A gun can put you to sleep but the sex is rather kinky. Plus who can put a chair in their mouth and angle it just right?! Who wants a chair deflecting off bone and leaving you more depressed than ever??

OK. I guess there is a place for private ownership of guns. We don't want "eating your chair" to get into common parlance.
