""Yes people carrying a gun are more likely to use it in inappropriate ways then someone without a gun""

Its so simple that you might think it would go without saying. But you did say it so I responded to it.

"You seem awfully confident

I'm 100% certain. No country in history (of any antiquity) has ever remained under original ownership or direction. The U.S. has changed her borders since she was 13 States. She went to war with Mexico to steal huge parcels of land and connect the coasts. Nothing is forever.

"Car's don't toss pasta either. Cars do other things besides killing people, so do guns, even if neither is very useful in preparing your pasta."

Cars provide transportation. They were designed and INTENDED to provide transportation. They were not designed to kill the odd deer and sometimes assist a suicide---although they sometimes DO these things.

Now what "useful" things do guns do besides killing thins?? To make it easier, why not pretend you have removed the bullets; because surely the bullets are in the gun only so that when the trigger is pulled a bullet will come out and kill something.

So now we have a gun without bullets which "do(es) other things besides killing people."

Perhaps you could give me an example of something "useful" a gun does outside of killing thins (sic)? Do they toss pasta or stir martinis--because these would certainly buttress your assertion.

Notice, I am not saying that killing things is not sometimes useful, but your comment that "Cars do other things besides killing people, so do guns" seemed intriguing to me. We know that cars are expressly designed for purposes other than killing and that when people are killed by cars it is usually accidental. I don't know if you are making the same point with guns (that they are designed for some useful purpose but that sometimes people are accidentally killed by them)--but I guess you will tell me.

I still thint their purpose has something to do with the bullets in them and that without the bullets the purpose is somehow more opaque. Give me credit...I did consider tossing pasta as a possible secondary function.
