Telebras (NYSE:TBR) receipts trade to remain suspended

Reuters, Thursday, September 11, 1997 at 14:40

SAO PAULO, Sept 11 (Reuter) - Trade in subscription
receipts of Telebras (SAO:TEL_.P) on the Sao Paulo bolsa will
remain indefinitely suspended following a request from Brazil's
Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM), a bourse official
said Thursday.
The stock exchange had said earlier it would resume trade
in the receipts at 1530 local time/1430 EDT after recent news
reports on a high court decision to back a controversial 1990
share subscription.
"The CVM asked us to maintain the suspension until further
notice and that is what we are doing," a bolsa spokeswoman
said.
Minutes earlier, the bourse had issued a statement saying
it would resume trade in the receipts, although Telebras had
failed to provide information it had promised the stock
exchange.
Telebras had asked Brazil's bolsas Wednesday to halt trade
in the receipts to avoid "damaging speculation" after Tuesday's
high court decision and promised to provide the market with
information on the ruling.
