- 911 was not dealt with effectively. The Clinton administration warned the Bush administration that terrorism was job 1. The Bush administration, thinking that the Clinton administration was always wrong about everything, declined to take notice.
Bush, after all, had Rice as NSA. She is a Russian specialist, he was planning on dealing with the cold war, he's a bit out of touch. Remember, he was planning on pushing star wars (still is I think) although whose missiles he's expecting to meet in inner space is a big question mark even if the technology worked which it does not.
Bush, Rice et al also ignored their own FBI's 40+ warnings, the PDBs, Clarke and whatever else they were warned about that we will never hear.
We spend $50 billion on intelligence, it's not THAT stupid. Tenet took the blame and demoralized the troops. He did get the medal of freedom for his efforts.
Post 911 is a tragedy that will be a cautionary tale forever.
-Katrina is a natural disaster likely exacerbated by human behavior including over development of the marshlands, negligence of the cement seawalls and global warming of the oceans. FEMA didn't just fail to answer the call, the one job it exists for, FEMA obstructed help.
Luckily the Canadians from Vancouver got through and showed up 4 days before FEMA. FEMA is a disaster all by itself. It sent trucks on a nationwide trip ending up in Portland, Maine....loaded with ICE.
The reason FEMA is in this condition is because the Bushies think that government is not meant to help its people. Bushies think the government is meant to steal tax money from its people and give it to those with connections in government particularly those in their own party and those big business contributors.
If you don't have $10 million or more in the bank and an utter lack of morals, why do you support these people? Heck, conservative Republicans don't support these people and call them, 'drunken sailors' when it comes to their tax and steal policies.
-Clinton did not make up Koresh and crew, the family at Ruby Ridge, the fleeing of Elian and his mother from Cuba, Somalian civil war and Bosnia genocide. This is the problem with Republicans. You keep blaming Clinton for everything even while you benefited tremendously from his governance.
Clinton began the repair of the Reagan-Bush economic hollowing out of the American middle class. He took Bush's horrendous economy and added some 21 million jobs, reduced poverty and improved the budget every single year he was in office until he finally ended up with a surplus. There was, astonishingly enough, talk of paying down debt. There was, amazingly, the retirement of the 30 year bond (I think it's back already). There was, oddly enough, Greenie talking about the bad effects of having a surplus (or maybe just money on hand)...
OMG. A surplus
The Reagan revolution is simply tax and steal from the middle class to give to the rich, it's gone on steroids under Bush and become a monster that even Reagan wouldn't recognize. Bush has increased domestic discretionary spending by three times more than Carter and more than double that of Clinton. Reagan actually took it down a few percentage points.
Note also that high energy prices act as TAXES. Who cares if the middle class received a $300 advance on their future taxes if they're now paying triple for gasoline and who knows what for heat this winter?
Note also that Bush's tax strategy of soaking the middle class provided Clinton the multimillionaire with 4 tax cuts. This while adding $2 TRILLION onto the debt. This isn't even graduate level economics, it's junior high school check balancing.
- 21% of Americans think that we will definitely win Iraq. 55% say let's get the heck out. We have run out of reconstruction money.
Iraq's best friends? Iran and Syria.
The consequences of Iraq are unknown. So far, none of them look good. The busiest of government offices is the one for passports. I'd flee as well, wouldn't you? |
