That's a good way of putting it. I felt it was more an act of social acceptance. In fact, what is not generally known is that in SA, if it were not for the apartheid laws, most white men would probably have preferred black women. This would have left the white women and black men stranded -- or perhaps it would have encouraged them to cohabit, something the white men could not accept. I have read books that racial mixing was certainly the case in the early days of the Cape when miscegenation was allowed. Strangely enough, one does not see a great deal of it now, certainly in public, because I know black men do not like to see black women with white men even as much as white men don't like to see white women with black men. Nonetheless, quite a few black ANC top dogs are married to white women -- which reveals what has been going on behind the curtain.
