That's a joke simply to bullsh1t everyone that the US is still a superpower. It's as cosmetic as Greenspan's twiddling of interest rates which cannot make an iota of difference to the massive fiscal debt or the adverse balance of payments and which serve merely to keep up the pretence that inflation is under control -- which it isn't. The US can't afford a space program -- period. As the article says, the program is a poison pill for any future administration which has to cancel it.
