Elroy Re: "Luddite" I am the REAL Luddite, not Elmat. <grin> BTW, I really do enjoy your posts about the oil industry, especially the info on oil shale. I have an industry background too and some experience in the chemical industry but not in refining.

I guess the hybrid car is a good thing but there is a very much simpler and less resource intensive way. Very small simple light weight cars and arranging things so that people don't drive so much. I have a bunch of motorcycles and one of them, a model first built in 1954 is capable of over 200 mpg. And it can transport me across town as well as any car, hybrid or otherwise, and is actually fun to drive. No hybrid car built can come close to that mileage.

We drive too much and the cure for that is to quit building and repairing roads. One of the most unfortunate things that ever happened to my country was the Eisenhower Interstate System. It wrecked our great cities and tore up the countryside. It was not needed and there was no call from the public for such a system. THe big government advocates wanted it, the military and the leftie social engineers. Its very construction was an unconstitutional act. And now the fossil fuel resource that is required for the operation of the scheme is scarce. It was a stupid mistake to construct in the first place. Without it life would have gone on just the same and with vastly less migration and thereby strengthening community and family ties. But that is what the leftie social engineers were after anyway.

I am a Luddite, and proud of it.
