It is possible that Olaudah Equiano just listed SC as his place of birth for convenience reasons. It might have appeared ot him to be easier to explain or to be less threatening than Nigeria. In the sixteenth century Nigeria might not have been well known. We may never know the truth. It is nice to know that there are some honest scholars that will challenge conventional liberal thought when the facts warrant it.
