Marshall,

Nice review of the Sawgrass Mills RFC in todays Sun-Sentinel:

A tropical experience

West: After a day of shopping at Sawgrass Mills mall in Sunrise, I was exhausted and hungry as well as curious about the greenery-filled, forestlike entrance of the Rainforest Cafe. So, I took a seat at the bar and browsed the menu. As the lightning flashed and the sounds of a tropical rainstorm enveloped the restaurant, I ordered the Maya Pastalaya ($14.95) then walked around the dining area and souvenir shop wishing I had the time to stay.

This is definitely an exotic experience complete with large tanks of tropical fish and "islands" of tropical trees with mechanized elephants, monkeys and birds that chirp and roar. I made a mental note that our next family outing should be at this cafe.

When I returned to the bar, my order was waiting packaged in a large cardboard box and then placed in a Rainforest shopping bag for easy carrying.

I returned home, opened my entree and discovered a heaping portion of linguine tossed with bite-size pieces of chicken breast and medium shrimp with slices of spicy andouille sausage, sweet onions, green peppers, Roma tomatoes and scallions all mixed with a spicy red Cajun sauce.

It was sweet with a bite, hot and absolutely delicious. The portion could have served two easily, and the spiciness of the dish did not send me running for the milk bottle. Another mental note: Order the Maya Pastalaya again.

The Rainforest Cafe, 12801 W. Sunrise Blvd., Sunrise, 954-851-1015, is just inside the White Seahorse entrance of Sawgrass Mills. The mall is on the northwest corner of West Sunrise Boulevard and Flamingo Road.

Dennis
