A Reverse Split -- Ouch!
Stock splits don't change your ownership share, but they generally occur with successful and highly priced stocks. Not so with the bear market phenomenon of a reverse split, which happens when a company's stock performs horribly and is often priced in the pennies. Two-thirds of 37 reverse splits in 2002 failed to bring stock prices above penny-stock or penny-company levels. Stay away.

A: The stock looks cheap by historical comparison, but is it going to rise or is it going to fall? It is a good company or a bad company. That's what you must decide. The market could certainly drive a stock down after a consolidation.
