Saddam did not harbor active terrorist groups. He had a few old retired terrorists living in his country. Not to say he was perfect, he did begin to send cash payments to palestinian bombers but as you remember, that was when we were pressuring him and he was trying to rally Arabs to his side. He never gave a damn about religion one way or another.
He was into power, money and oil, like many Bush pals.

As for Saddam's "massacres", the worst ones were when Reagan was backing him, with Rumsfield as his point man. And against the Iranians. True he was a dictator and a bad one, and killed many, but he had nothing to do with 9-11 and was not in any position to seriously threaten us.

Bottomline though, don't invade and occupy a large country without a smart plan. Bush's planning was nowhere in sight, just AWOL on planning.
