Re: "Cheney's lies about WMD and Al Qaida were deliberate."
The premise that he lied is not accepted. All lies, by definition, must be deliberate, otherwise you are left with only errors. He wasn't deliberately wrong, just wrong. Once you accept the simple fact that virtually everyone believed in the WMD's in Iraq, which after all did exist once upon a time without a doubt, then to show a lie was told you would have to find evidence that somehow Cheney knew better than others around the world and didn't tell, but only pretended to believe as the others did. You don't have any such evidence. Therefore claiming we know he lied, is itself a lie, as far as the eye can see.
Re: "Saddam and Al Qaida were opposites and threatened each other. They were not connected in any way."
We know Saddam's people got with Al Qaeda people more than once. We know Al Qaeda people were harbored in Iraq. We know Saddam and Al Qaeda shared a common hatred of the U.S, and a love of Iraq. We know Saddam praised the acts of Al Qaeda on 911, and promised more to come as if holding inside knowledge (and I'd say he almost certainly did have inside knowledge).
Re: "Saddam hadn't had WMD's since 1992 or so...remember we had UN inspection teams in there who never found anything"
Yes they did, and far after '92. That's just a fact. Remember, the known remaining stockpiles were things Saddam refused to make account of.
I don't doubt Bush "sexed" up the intel, or however you want to put it. I'm glad. I feel they were right to go to war, and I feel they believed with good reason, rather than lied. |
