I try not to be embarrassed when Renee asks for her glass of "Sutter Home". But knowing the grocer sells the whole bottle for that $5 also makes me wince, ha.
I suppose the truth is that the quality of most sweet dull commercial wines is actually fairly outstanding. I can't say that I have ever had bad or spoiled wine, and I probably have never spent more than $10 or $20--and usually just under $10 is the sweet spot, no pun.
I read a beer article that pointed out that for the price, the quality of Budwieser lager is unsurpassed. And I guess it is true. Although, what I really like to do is sample, say, seven little sampler beers all in a row, lighter to dark.
Getting a little thirsty. I could kick myself for missing the beer thing in Fremont (our Seattle Fremont) this weekend. The weather here today is just perfect, 65 degrees, not a cloud--we found the first of the wooly bear caterpillers at the park this morning. I love autumn, really ought to skip the first part of my shift and head to Fremont. |
