so, if they are paying them $15 an hour, why is it that all the "chronically unemployed" who are US citizens don't do the work? if Americans are too lazy to do the work, they should give the Mexicans citizenship if they work a certain period of time. but maybe they want to save the citizenship carrot for the cannon fodder being sent to Iraq.

btw $15 an hour seems quite high for Mexican day laborers. i wonder if it will cause any wage inflation in the South and Southwest as you would think this will pull a lot of young men from lawnmowing and other daylabor jobs in Texas. also, the treatment will probably be better at New Orleans; elsewhere, illegals may not get paid if unscrupulous employers threaten to call the INS.
