Like you, I'm a Canadian and I vote. But I really am not sure what to say to Mr. Goodale or Martin either. Is double taxation fair? Probably not. But I do know that the government spends too few dollars on education, health, scientific research. There is no massive program to help immigrants and aboriginals and underprivileged folk generally, teach them English, teach them trades etc. And there should be such an effort. So the government needs more dollars to accomplish that. Only taxes bring in major amounts of money.
Another thing. If the trust structure vanishes would Peyto or Canadian Oil Sands lose their value? Are they incapable of existing as regular companies. Not too likely, eh? They are solid enterprises.
The sky isn't falling. Meanwhile I'm happily using the monthly DRIP on the above two trusts, believing that all will be well.
