<Should parents be allowed to kick their toddlers out into the street if they find them too annoying? If an adult gets into an accident and loses both legs, should they be left to lie in the street?>

I have kicked toddlers out into the street when they get too annoying. Not literally kicked, but they experience withdrawal of support. Being shut outside is not a nice feeling. "Beyond the pale" is an olde punishment from Britain. Okay, I can't actually remember kicking them out, but it is certainly a good idea, so they realize where their support base is.

If an adult loses both legs, they should definitely NOT be left to lie in the street. That would be an excellent profit opportunity. They would agree to a high fee for rescuing them. I expect there would be several ambulances and doctors rushing to the scene to offer their services. Bidding for the business would find the market rate for a double-missing-leg customer.

The double amputee should probably also be prosecuted for dangerous behaviour as they more than likely did something dangerous and stupid and illegal to cause such a problem. That would bring in more profits.

Next time, the legless would be more careful!

<People on this thread were aghast at what happened in NO because they could see themselves or loved ones in that situation. Is that what you want to live in?>

I would definitely NOT want to live in a situation like New Orleans. Why on Earth would you think I'd like to live in a place like that, where people depend on governments, who you might have noticed were not a lot of use.

Note that the government arranged huge traffic jams in the evacuation from Rita! In my capitalist world of private enterprise, there would have been no traffic jams and people would have left town in comfort or simply remained in town, secure in the knowledge that the structures would protect them.

How do you measure mental and physical satisfaction in bees? I don't think that people are like bees. < I think that people, like bees, get real physical and mental satisfaction from work> I have noticed that most people take a day off work if they can. I notice that there are never traffic jams into cities on a Sunday because people are sneaking into work just because they enjoy it so much.

<Where have you read that welfare causes child abuse >

I have written it. I haven't come across many people who have noticed that there is a causal relationship between welfare and child abuse. But you will soon see a correlation. Count the abused children, then count how many were on welfare to see the correlation. Then see if you can figure out the cause [that should be easy since I already told you].

<Multigenerational welfare is, of course, stupid and the way to get rid of it?>

Stop paying it.

<Everyone who is able should work...it keeps you healthy and prevents your mind from rotting. >

You mean we'll force them to work at gunpoint with threat of being gaoled if they refuse? I've been not working for years and I quite like it. I am healthier and my mind rot is normal aging, not lack of work. Why should I work if I don't want to, just to please you? Many people quite like being able to decide to not work. Retirement is a popular thing to do.

<If McDonald's can sell you sugary sludge that will kill you if you eat it long enough, then an unregulated McDonald's will also put caffeine into your milkshake and cocaine back into your softdrink to keep you coming back. >

I wouldn't buy it if it had caffeine in it or cocaine or sugary sludge. So they'd have to get other customers.

Yes, I have worked in very big corporations [Texaco, BP, Castrol].

<Have you WORKED in a big corporation? That's no model of efficiency, competition and concern for the customer. In big corporations, the customer is secondary, the corporate structure is primary. Screw the customer, just suck up to the boss. >

I can assure you the customer is NOT secondary. No customer = no corporate structure. I've been a salesman and I can tell you that the companies are very interested in keeping customers. There was plenty of competition. There was a constant search for efficiency.

I have also seen lots of other companies up close and personal, and government agencies. If you want a lack of concern for "customers", indifference to efficiency and a complete lack of competition, with corporate structure and sucking up to the boss the main issue, you need to go to government places.

< MS software sucks but it's such a dominant (autocratic, bullying) force that it's frequently the only choice (monopolistic) and a lousy one at that. >

I like Microsoft software. I have bought quite a bit of it. There are other choices, unless you draw the boundary conditions of the alleged monopoly tightly enough to exclude others.
