rose~

your day sounded idyllic...

i hope you'll get those photos up.
i'm looking forward to seeing them.

this end of summer -- transition into autumn
has seemed gradual this year.

so far, just one frost... not widespread...
so the plants and leaves on the trees
continue to stay relatively green.
the bolder wild purple asters are blooming
like mad in my gardens
and i still have many bumblebees spending
their days buzzing from flower to flower.
lots of grasshoppers and still have many
of the big garden spiders.

also seeing many butterflies,
and especially Monarchs.
last year, i think i may have seen 2 in the
whole season -- and everyone else was saying
the same.
made me worry a bit that their numbers were dwindling,
but just a couple of weeks ago, we began seeing many
migrating through.
most days, i've seen at least a couple in my gardens,
stopping to visit the asters or thistle flowers
as they passed by.

saw this nice one the other night
while i was at a conservation area
looking for salamanders.
to me, the photo seems representative
of our early autumn...
the brilliant blue sky,
the crisp autumn colours...
and the last butterflies and flowers
of the season.

i hope the good weather lingers on
for at least a few more weeks.
