AMCC Announces Appointment of Robert G. Gargus as New CFO

SAN DIEGO, Sept. 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Applied Micro Circuits Corporation (Nasdaq: AMCC - News) today announced the appointment of Robert G. Gargus to the position of Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer effective October 10, 2005. Gargus is a senior executive with more than 25 years of financial and general management experience in the technology sector.

Gargus was most recently Chief Financial Officer of Open-Silicon, Inc., a privately held fabless ASIC company. Prior to Open-Silicon, he was the CFO at Silicon Image, a public semiconductor company specializing in high-speed serial communications technology selling into the personal computer, storage and consumer electronics markets, where he was responsible for the company's finance, investor relations, legal and human resources activities. During his three plus years at Silicon Image, the company experienced significant growth, a return to solid profitability, and a ten-fold improvement in their market cap. Before Silicon Image, Gargus served as President and CEO of Telcom Semiconductor. Under his leadership, Telcom Semiconductor achieved solid revenue growth and profitability, and was selected by Forbes Magazine in October 2000 as one of the "200 Best Small Companies." Prior to Telcom Semiconductor, Gargus spent over 10 years with Tandem Computers, serving in various roles including Corporate Controller, and President and General Manager of Atalla Corporation, a Tandem Computers subsidiary.
Gargus holds an MBA in Finance and a BS in Accounting from the University of Detroit.
Jeff Blazevich, who has served as AMCC's acting CFO since January, will remain Vice President and Controller and a key member of the management team responsible for finance and accounting.
