Elroy, this is the most unique idea I have seen or heard about a long time. Don't want to lick your oshiri but you came up with something here: Maybe that was the grand (US) plan at the time and in some way it had to be aborted?? Because that Kuwait thing just doesn't make sense anywhere, not in retrospective and it never did either. John is right that Saddam may well have been lured into believing he could move into Kuwait freely and then things just suddenly changed... Taro
