Does that mean that you are you converted away from the dark side?

Never moved anywhere from my straight line, believe me.
At my age you don't do that.
My problem with you guys (or vice versa) only being that I am far from being a socialist - or liberal. I find your basic thinking quite strange. Have a partner in my company thinking like you guys. And 15 years of that was sufficient for me to learn about "liberal logic". Having said that...

As for my estate in your old homeland, its 15 acres and with a ruin on it (old structure, important) sized 150 sqm, according to the current Italian laws you can reconstruct - reerect! - another 100-120 sqm.
That makes for a home of 3000sqfeet, which is not bad considering a large peaceful estate with a million $$$ SPECTACULAR view from SE of Lago Trasímeno.

The current construction costs would be approx. 340-420 k$ for the full size home pending what kind of quality you would require from white goods et al.

I paid 210k$ for the 15 acres. Plans are on the way, construction team ready and with 2 years to go I may face the dream of my life coming true early 2008.

IMO this ir dirt cheap to the level of being almost obscene!
In the (arguably as they say) greatest retirement country on Earth.

Sure, 20 years ago I would have sold my soul to get a US green card (30 years ago I had SiValley job offers for that though) but 10 years ago when my immigration lawyer showed me the way, I got second thoughts and I settled for an E2 visa.

This has more to do with the rather rough estate laws of the US as compared to for instance Italy and Germany.
Having my kids living outside of the US with no recent plans to change that, the rest was easy to decide.

Also I became the minority of my family :)
