Perhaps the whole Kuwait thing and not invading was so we could base troops,etc. in Saudi Arabia - which we did after not deposing Saddam. Then, when the Saudis ( and bin Laden ) demanded we leave, we invade Iraq and have a permanent presence there. Just so we've got troops in the region with their thumb on the oil pulse...
