You don't make it though Yale and get a Harvard MBA without some brights. He is just a poor speaker.

A poor speaker, he definitely is. But you can make it through Yale with only a smidging of brights. There are a variety of ways to ski through.

The big trick is to get in. It takes, for most, serious brights. In Bush's case, his record before getting to Yale was mediocre. Family connections did the trick, however.

As for Harvard MBA, there are definite rumours about the help he had getting in. As for whether it's possible to get through the programs easily once in, I don't know.
