I feel bad for Pennington. He's a great kid and his prospects before all his arm troubles were pretty good

With a second rotator cuff tear, it's possible Chad Pennington has played his last NFL game. According to medical experts, the Jets are wise to consider that they may need a new starting quarterback next season. Even with limited knowledge of the specifics of this new injury -- confirmed by Herman Edwards to be a torn rotator cuff -- two orthopedic surgeons Tuesday cast serious doubt on whether Pennington will ever be the same.

The news wasn't as bad as expected for quarterbacks Chad Pennington and Jay Fiedler following their visit to orthopedic surgeon James Andrews for a second opinion. Fiedler could return as early as a month. Pennington's injury isn't career-threatening, Andrews said, and the quarterback could conceivably return this season. The Jets, however, will shut Pennington down regardless.

Distraught over news that he's torn his right rotator cuff for the second time in 10 months, Chad Pennington broke down and cried upon seeing his coach. Sobbing uncontrollably, his body shaking violently, Pennington fell into Herman Edwards' embrace.
