So true. In 1963, John Kennedy and Barry Goldwater, the presumed nominees for the 1964 elections, reportedly talked of touring the country together to present their respective viewpoints to the people. Imagine that happening today.
IMHO, the low came with Kenneth Starr's multi-year $100 million investigation of President Clinton and the resulting impeachment proceedings. Starr was charged with investigating and clarifying Whitewater, then kept going and going and going...
Clinton was foolish, and was more foolish for lying to conceal an embarrassing personal affair that, in itself, was not a crime. The Clinton case was an exercise in absurdity, proving that, as in the DeLay case, a prosecutor with an unlimited budget and time could probably find cause to indict anyone, including Mother Theresa.
What strikes me immediately is how NASTY politics has become, this is a NEW LEVEL. EVEN if he were guilty, which seems unlikely based upon what I am hearing on several talk shows, this CRIME is NOT EVEN A CRIME except in 19 states. Yet, if you listen to the Nancy Pelosi types you would think he murdered her firstborn child. jdn |
