There was a great deal of bad information going around as the passions swirled post-Katrina. A lot of it is now part of folklore and accepted as gospel truth. I'm quite upset about it. It will hurt NO, perhaps not as much as K. did, but will inflict serious damage nevertheless. The posters, some here, who got all heated up over the horrible crime in NO were also wrong. Crime is bad, to be sure, but it's bad everywhere. NO was making progress as all crimes rates, except that for murder, were on the way down. No substitute for the facts, but who needs facts when they get in the way of a good story?
