They are roughly two years behind their projections. They expected to be mass producing chips with the 90nm process back in 2003. They've finally arrived in 2005 with the P4 "Extreme Edition". Originally, Intel project that by 2005, they would be introducing processors based on the 65nm process technology. Certainly, that is at least another two years out as well.

They'll soon apply the 90nm process to the Itanium designs and then they can double the # of transistors.
