When I was tracking in Lapland (northernmost Sweden) with my parents as a kid, we always sprayed DDT inside the tent to sleep well.

I mean, it killed those bloodsucking critters up there before they got to us.

Still DDT is the only cost effective way to keep Malaria under control in large areas of Africa.
