GM blasts Japan's trade practices

TOKYO — Japanese government and auto officials were mum Friday about possible trade friction after U.S. lawmakers and General Motors accused Japan of discriminatory and arbitrary trade policies.

The success of Japanese automakers in the United States and the stumbling business fortunes of General Motors Corp. and Ford Motor Co. have prompted some Japanese auto executives to worry about a revival of 1980s Japan-bashing, when Japanese automakers were accused of robbing jobs from American workers.
