I gather from this post that your only argument that Nixon would have done it is that Nixon would have done it. It was in his character. We disagree. On Nixon's character and on the shape of the political world/culture at that point in time. Very, very different.

You cannot imagine the fury, in the early 60s, that would be caused by an American decision to invade a sovereign country that was no threat to it. Both internationally and domestically. Not a place Nixon would have gone.
